5. Personal Tuition
World-Class Tuition Tailored To You
In game tuition and advice is provided by our resident world-class poker player, Sonia.
The advice you receive is entirely tailored to you as follows:
Sonia puts herself in your shoes and thinks from your perspective
about what the best course of action is. The advice is NOT "What would Sonia do?" since
your strengths and weakness, your level of aggression, player reading abilities may vary wildly from
Sonia depending on whether you are a beginner or a highly advanced player.
Sonia's advice is highly dependent on the game conditions and what opponents are still left in the hand.
This allows her utilise your strengths to the maximal exploitation of your opponents' specific weaknesses.
Sonia is able to do all this by carefully and continuously studying your game and other players
in order to offer you the very best advice, no matter what difficult situation or context you may
happen to find yourself in.
Not only that, but as you progress in ability at your own pace her advice will grow with you
to ensure that her advice is always relevant to your current playing ability and style.
Sonia will always recommend taking the most profitable action. This will take into account
how you and your opponents are likely to play later on in the game and not just the strength of your hand.
This may often involve the laying of traps for your opponents to step into, like check-raising or slow playing a strong hand.
On most occasions her advice will be decisive, with one action being strongly considered to be the best action by Sonia.
Occasionally decisions can be highly marginal, with two or sometimes even three options being close in profitability.
The relative strength of Sonia's opinion is indicated by use of a bar chart on the advice panel.
A few trivial examples of how her advice might vary depending on your playing style or ability are as follows:
Sonia might advise a passive player to bluff more on average than an aggressive player when a scare card falls.
Sonia might advise a beginner to fold a marginal hand but an advanced player to raise the hand, knowing
that the advanced player is more likely to make a profit by playing the hand better on later streets.
Sonia might advise a passive player to call a very strong hand that she would normally recommend
an aggressive player to raise, in order to not scare the player's opponents into folding.
Sonia might advise a player with a strong hand to check to an aggressive player,
in order to raise the player after they bet (known as a check-raise).
Of course, Sonia's advice is entirely situational and the above examples trivialise the complexity associated
with coming to an accurate estimate of the profitability of any decision. However, as you progress Sonia
will advance your understanding of these complexities as well as help heighten your own senses and intuition.
How to use
Advice from Sonia is available at all 6-max tables where Sonia is actually seated.
It can be requested at any point in the game where you are required to make an action
simply by clicking the 'Ask Sonia' button. Advice is paid for out of the chips you currently
have at the table and deducted at the end of the hand.
The charge for advice is there to ensure players cannot simply climb the rankings
by using the advice on every
action. Your Virtual Player will also ignore any actions for training purposes so that
it is not possible to use the 'Ask Sonia' just to train your Virtual Player.
Advice Panel Tour
Click this to open the advice panel when it's your turn to act. The amount in brackets will be deducted at the end of the hand.
The cost of the advice is 5% of the current pot size limited to a maximum of half the current bet size (e.g. $1 on the turn at a $1/$2 table).
FoldFoldCallRaise
The recommended action is indicated in the callout by Sonia
and by highlighting the associated action button.
The bar chart also shows the relative strength of Sonia's opinion about which action is the
most profitable action to take.
Bet Or Raise Behind If I Check: 53%
Hand: A Pair of Aces
Directly underneath the check/call button the advice panel displays the likelihood
that you will face a bet or raise by any of your opponents should you choose to check or call.
This is useful, for example, if you hold a strong hand and wish to check-raise your opponent(s) when there has been no bet; as it
indicates the likelihood of your trap being successfully executed.
Your current hand rank is displayed at the bottom.
Folds to Raise: 22%
Raise/Reraised Behind: 7%
'Folds to Raise' gives the likelihood that the remaining opponents will all fold should
you raise. This can be useful should you be considering a bluff or steal attempt.
'Raise/Reraised Behind' gives the likelihood
that you will face a reraise by any of your opponents should you choose to raise.
Strength: 42%
Potential: +30%, -10%
Pot Odds: 17%
'Strength' is the current strength of your hand relative to those of your opponents.
'Potential' is made up of both a positive potential and a negative potential indicating the chance
of your hand catching up (for example hitting a flush draw when your opponent holds a straight) or falling behind
(for example your opponent hitting a straight draw, when you hold three of a kind) respectively.
'Pot Odds' is the pot size compared to the amount of money you are required to put into the pot to continue.
