  • Who or what is Sonia?
  • Sonia is our resident world-class player. She is the result of the pioneering research of PokerParadime's co-founders and also offers on-demand, world-class personal tuition to players on the site. Learn more about Sonia - The Virtual Queen of Online Poker.
  • Isn't poker just a game of chance?
  • Although chance plays a significant role in the outcome of any one particular hand, the skill and ability level of a player overwhelmingly determines the player's long-term success. In particular, given that opponent hole cards remain private unless the game proceeds to a showdown, the game tends to that of psychological warfare, rather than that of pure mathematical reasoning.
  • What are Virtual Players?
  • A Virtual Player is your very own virtual self. To create your own Virtual Player and start teaching him or her to play just like you simply log in and start playing!!! As you play your Virtual Player will start to mirror the ins and outs of your game, your playing style, your strengths and of course your weaknesses! Learn more about Virtual Players.
  • Do you allow subscribers to train several different Virtual Players to see how they fare?
  • No, multi-accounting is explicitly against our Terms and Conditions.
  • So how does PokerParadime compare to a real money poker site?
  • PokerParadime provides a highly challenging and entertaining environment to either learn to play, or to sharpen existing skills without the requirement to gamble real money. In-game world-class personal tuition gives players the chance to learn in the most difficult situations that require the greatest attention.
  • So how does PokerParadime compare with other virtual/play money poker sites?
  • As almost anyone who has played, or watched games on the myriad of these sites would testify; the games tend to be very loose, with most or all players at a table either calling or raising. As well as providing little long-term entertainment value, a player who has mastered any of these sites will find it extremely difficult translating their skills to a real money poker site. Many of these sites are provided free by real money poker sites simply in order to lure play money players into depositing real cash; a job made much easier by the false sense of ability that often comes with winning on these low-skilled games. PokerParadime provide a highly realistic and competitive game selection environment suitable for all ability ranges. As well as having a world-class resident player, we also provide world-class in-game, personal tuition courtesy of Sonia.
  • So how does PokerParadime compare with other tuition products?
  • Many products claim to have good AI; some even claim to have the best or even world-class opponents. However, the claims of these companies rapidly evaporate as the owner finds themselves having to get to grips with numerous and difficult to understand parameter sliders and totally unrealistic gameplay with easily beaten opponents. Only PokerParadime has a resident world-class player and can offer all players in-game, world-class, personal tuition courtesy of Sonia, the result of the groundbreaking research of PokerParadime's co-founders Mark Reilly and Marc Cohen. In addition, we uniquely offer each player the opportunity to teach their very own, highly attentive Virtual Poker Player, simply by playing on the site. As an exclusively online product, we provide all these features to our community of subscribers in order that they may share, develop and nurture their poker abilities together in a uniquely competitive and entertaining environment.
  • Why is she called Sonia? Is that an acronym?
  • At the very origins of the company, Marc had a dream that we had created a player called Sonia, which was annihilating an early prototype we had made. Sonia soon became indelibly etched into our subconsciouses as the personification of our ambition to create the world's first truly intelligent, manipulative and highly intuitive world-class poker player.
  • How do I get in-game advice and tuition from Sonia?
  • Requesting in-game advice is as simple as clicking the 'Ask Sonia' button when it's your turn to act. Advice carries a virtual money charge of 5% with a maximum of 1/2 of the current bet size (e.g. max of $1 on the river at a $1/$2 table). Please note that in-game advice from Sonia is only available at 6-max tables, and only at tables where Sonia is actually seated. Learn more about our world-class personal tuition.
  • How do I find who's currently playing?
  • To find out which players are currently seated. Go to the Rankings page and click the 'Seated Players Only' link.
To find out which Virtual Players are currently seated. Go to the Virtual Rankings page and click the 'Seated Virtual Players Only' link.
  • How do I search for a particular player?
  • Go to the Rankings page and type the player's username into the search box at the bottom of the page and then click the 'Search' button. If the user can be located you will be automatically redirected to the user's home page.
  • What's the difference between 'Rankings' and 'Virtual Rankings'
  • The Rankings page ranks players according to their current bankroll, as calculated at the end of each hand. The Virtual Rankings page ranks Virtual Players according to their current bankroll, as calculated at the end of each hand. Learn more about Leaderboards.
  • Just how good is Sonia?
  • Sonia has been extensively tested against what to-date have been considered the best software poker opponents in the world. Each time she outclassed her opponents to win by hugely significant margins.
  • Do you intend to introduce no-limit/pot-limit games?
  • We definitely intend to provide no-limit games in the not too distant future. We're excited about introducing Sonia to no-limit where we believe she will prove to be a highly formidable opponent.
  • Why 6-Max limit Texas Hold'em games?
  • 6-Max limit is the most commonly played limit Texas Hold'em cash variant and is considered the most interesting and challenging form of the game. The game also requires complex deceptive and strategic gameplay to compete at the highest levels. In addition, a player generally needs to play more starting hands in 6-Max, so the game appeals more to beginners than the slow-paced game of full ring.
  • Do you intend to introduce full ring or heads up games?
  • We have recently introduced a limited number of exhibition heads up games against Sonia due to demand. We may consider introducing full ring in the future, depending on demand.
  • Do you intend to introduce other poker variants like Omaha Hi/Low etc?
  • No current plans exist outside the potential Texas Hold'em variants. More specifically our main game focus is on providing no-limit.
  • Do you intend to introduce tournaments or sit'n'gos?
  • Yes, although we're not quite sure at what point in the timeline these will be introduced.
  • Just how private are my hole cards?
  • We take issues of integrity and security very seriously at PokerParadime. Our statement of hole card privacy is as follows:

A player's hole cards shall remain entirely private and only visible to the player to which they are dealt until all betting rounds have been complete and the player also proceeds to showdown. No other player (human, virtual or Sonia) shall be able to view a player's hole cards that did not reach showdown unless expressly and willingly showed by the player themselves.

  • Sonia plays like she can see my cards. Are you sure she isn't cheating?
  • Sonia is subject to the exact same rules as all other poker players. At times Sonia may appear to make illogical decisions that suggest she has access to privy information that other players at the table do not have. This is definitely not the case. Her ability to pick up on, and even infer specific reads about how individuals play is as a result of her experience and acquired intuition. In addition she cannot see the hands you fold that don't go to showdown.
  • Whenever I have a good hand, Sonia hits the river and beats me. Could she see the river before it was dealt or do you rig your site to make it more challenging?
  • Sonia has no information as to what community cards are going to be dealt before they are dealt. Nor do we in any way rig the outcomes of hole cards, community cards, winners or anything else. Due to the inherently random nature of Texas Hold'em and the propensity for players to bluff, games can often appear strange, or rigged, or even deliberate in their intention to frustrate or intimidate specific players.
  • Can I play more than one table at once?
  • Yes, simply open the table you wish to play in another window. Currently players are limited to a maximum number of four tables open at a time.
  • When are we going to see Sonia and Virtual Players appearing in any other games or environments aside from poker?
  • Our first immediate commitment with the technology is towards no-limit Texas Hold'em. However, we are actively pursuing alternative applications, including both gaming and business opportunities so don't be surprised to find Sonia and Virtual Players popping up somewhere entirely different in the foreseeable future.
  • Where can I find a copy of your terms and conditions and privacy policy?
  • Please read our Terms and Conditions along with our Privacy Policy.
